Illustration and Design

l trained in Graphic Design at Glasgow School of Art and work as an illustrator and Community Tutor. I have worked as a Museum Designer (publications and exhibitions); as Senior Designer in various studios / consultancies; as a freelance Design Consultant and as Graphics Lecturer in Further Education. My first children's book was published in December 2008 - 'The Curious Mind of Young Darwin', as part of the celebrations for Darwin's bicentenary 2009. I am currently working on a possible sequel to this and also seeking publication for three more children's books of my own. I mainly work in line and watercolour wash. Other commissions have included scraperboard illustrations. I greatly enjoy teaching Community Classes - encouraging groups of people with little or no experience to learn some basic design skills and helping them to build confidence and a sense of achievement. I have a studio in Glasgow and on the Isle of Bute - a small island in the Firth of Clyde which inspires my sketchbook work.
